The first Annual James P. Kohn Memorial Golf Tournament was
held on Friday April 4 at Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, NC.
The tournament, sponsored by the ECU ASSE Student Section, hosted 75
golfers and raised over $4500, which will go to the James P. Kohn
scholarship funds, one at ECU and one at the ASSE Foundation. The banquet and awards ceremony was a
special event to remember the legacy of Dr. Kohn. The Dean of the College of Technology
and Computer Science, Ralph Rogers, spoke and thanked the safety community
for their support of ECU. Dr. Kohn’s friend and colleague, Dan Sprau, spoke
of his working and personal relationship with Jim and read a statement from
Jim’s wife Carrie Kohn. Lou Pokorny, Jim’s father-in-law, described
Jim’s love of golf, family, and education.
The student section would like to thank the parent chapter for all
of their support in getting this first tournament off the ground and
hopefully building momentum for this event as an annual fundraiser to honor
Dr. Kohn. We also wish to thank all the donors and participants and
look forward to their continued involvement and support in this worthwhile
cause. We hope to get more chapter
and alumni involvement in upcoming years.

good food and fellowship following the James P. Kohn Memorial Golf
Tournament.

Dr. Dan Sprau (Dr. Kohn’s
friend and colleague) and Lou Pokorny (Dr. Kohn’s father-in-law) share
memories of Jim.
